EPIKS – Environmental Projects in Kirklees
I designed a series of wayfinding and community engagement signage for Huddersfield Riverside Nature Park. It was an environmental project led by EPIKS to improve access, understanding and enjoyment of local riverside habitats. The project supports greener, more accessible walking routes while helping communities connect with the wildlife and nature on their doorstep.
The project included eight A1 large-format signs installed along walking routes, plus additional A3 nature area signage and flood risk warning signs. I adapted EPIKS’ existing brand identity for an outdoor environment, creating a cohesive signage system that combined detailed maps, route keys, photography and wildlife information. Designed for clarity and accessibility, the signs help visitors navigate the area while encouraging discovery of the plants and animals found around the riverside and underwater habitats.
I developed detailed route maps and keys, incorporated sponsor recognition and created layouts combining photography, illustrations and educational content. Features included local wildlife to look out for above and below the water, helping visitors discover the biodiversity of the riverside environment.
A key focus was making complex information easy to navigate outdoors, with careful consideration given to hierarchy, readability and viewing distance. The finished signage helps guide walkers while creating a stronger connection between the local community and the natural environment.
