For eight consecutive issues, I created fun graphic design for Whizz Pop Bang magazine. A fun science magazine for kids aged 6-11 years had to be bright, engaging and colourful. During this work I designed News, Interview, Quiz, How Stuff Works. I wholeheartedly enjoyed creating a centre Pull-out with double-sided pages, working with the illustrators’ work. It had to be accurate so it could be cut out by the young readers to do the activities.
Importantly every page needed to be fresh and varied between each issue. Multiple team members annotated amends which I kept track of on their system. Clarity for How Stuff Works was key so I arranged section order to help readers absorb content easily.
What’s more I totally revamped the Letters feature design. I came up with the idea of the style of robot Y’s inner mechanics. I made sure it was easy and efficient to work with as a designer. I brought fresh thinking, evolution and attention to detail in all design stages. I finalised files to press and juggled three different magazine issues simultaneously. Designing pages for Whizz Pop Bang magazine was great fun too.
Illustrations are by Clive Goodyer and Dan Green.
