I was art director on IDFX magazine design for more than a year before moving regions and going freelance. Targeting interior design professionals, it was based in London. I evolved the monthly design by exploring visual layout styles fitting for each piece’s content. When the project started, I absorbed a new team’s processes and design style in a very short time. What’s more, I methodically converted all files from Quark to InDesign. This required a lot of correction to style sheets and standardisation. I designed the entire first issue myself to a high standard in just 9 days. Co-operating with the team, we nipped any process issues in the bud for the next issue.
Another title I designed was luxury lifestyle title, The Wealth Collection. I was challenged to give each piece its own feel. For this issue I used photography as inspiration. I kept most palettes 2-colour, taking into consideration the adverts positioned alongside pages. Connoisseur was image-heavy and required some photo-editing. David Bailey requested his piece was very simply laid out. Therefore I let photography speak for itself and accented it with magenta. I made this complement his Kate Moss photograph cover.
Work on The Wealth Collection and IDFX magazines mark the stage I developed my breadth as a graphic designer.
