Whizz Pop Bang
For eight consecutive issues of Whizz Pop Bang, I designed editorial layouts for the award-winning science magazine for children aged 6–11. Every issue needed to be colourful, varied and easy to follow, bringing scientific topics to life through creative design.
I worked across regular features including News, Interview with a…, Quiz Pop Bang and How Stuff Works, as well as the multi-page pull-out activity pages. Collaborating with editors and illustrators Clive Goodyer and Dan Green, I combined eye-catching layouts with the precision needed for cut-out activities. I also redesigned the Ask Y feature, introducing a robot-inspired concept that refreshed the section while creating a practical template for future editions.
Working on several issues simultaneously, I collaborated with a fully remote editorial team, managing amendments from multiple reviewers through an efficient online proofing system. I prepared artwork for press, maintained a consistent visual style throughout the magazine and delivered each issue to deadline.
It was a rewarding opportunity to combine editorial design, teamwork and production expertise to help make science fun and accessible for children.
